No other sound represents my rage better than grunge. Grunge is the purest distillation of suppressed anger

hair metal was very diverse to begin with, and many people are also conflating hair metal with AOR. I'm not too much into grunge, so I may have an incomplete picture, but I think grunge doesn't really stand a chance against harder-edged hair metal like Black 'n' Blue, Tigertailz, Diamond Rexx, London or Keel in terms of that "balls to the wall rock fury", unless you bring in something very heavy and sludgy like Melvins, but ofc it is too different in spirit, heavy in a non-rock-and-roll way. And indeed, there is no competition anyway because grunge strongly opposed sex/drugs/endless parties theme to begin with and was openly anti-rock-and-roll in this sense; and while grunge can be ballsy and energetic, it's done in completely different way in comparison with gritty blues-driven earlier rock of AC/DC or Ted Nugent school. Grunge killed rock and roll in the mainstream indeed, because it basically ended this blues-centered rock tradition that dated back to Rolling Stones and others.

What a wasted musical genre, I think it's a shame that when Cobain "committed suicide" everyone lost interest in grunge and hadn't noticed the other bands that were still active and therefore, the active bands lost interest in making music because people no longer showed interest in grunge, I mean cobain's death is a shame but come on, nirvana is not the only grunge band, they didn't even create it, alice in chains, screaming trees, pearl jam, soundgarden, mudhoney, tad, l7, hole, skin yard, melvins, mad season etc.

Grunge fashion was cheap clothes.. It's even similar to what N.W.A. was wearing at the time.

That's some incoherent comment since a lot of grunge bands start in the 80's actually lol

ehh sure, but id consider the highest peak of actual grunge was in the late 80s i guess. the more commercialized version of grunge was in the 90s (mostly the mid 90s)

It's pretty funny to realize that after the death of grunge and nu metal, glam metal has experienced a rebirth and people have come to love pretentious stadium rock again. Everyone still describes the grunge era as a revolution, but in the end, after Cobain's death, commerce to popular culture not only did not disappear, it even increased.

Awesome stuff, but I think the worst part of the fallout from Grunge's popularity is how dumb some of it's fans became. I'm in a few Grunge groups on Facebook and they're littered with people saying shit like "Rock died after Grunge" and other nonsense while mentioning popular rock bands like Five Finger Death Punch as examples of how Rock as a whole is doing. I'm sorry you don't have MTV and radio to spoon feed you good rock music anymore. Rock is just as good now as it was 20-25 years ago. It just isn't what sells anymore. It isn't in any danger though.

Back in the 90s, Cobain realized that the majority of the audience of the genre were poseurs who loved them only because of their popularity. What do you want from modern children?

Your comment is quite funny considering that it was grunge that kicked your favorite bands out of mainstream rock.
